Generative Art and Computational Creativity Course

Generative Art and Computational Creativity Course
SYNOPSIS

This course proposes an introduction and overview of the history and practice of generative arts and computational creativity with an emphasis on the formal paradigms and algorithms used for generation.

Join Philippe Pasquier, associate professor at the School of Interactive Arts + Technology at Simon Fraser University, as he explores the theory and practice of generative art and computational creativity.

In his course “Generative Art and Computational Creativity Fundamentals,” students will learn computational creativity from a technical and practical approach. On the technical side, students will study core techniques from mathematics, artificial intelligence and artificial life that are used by artists, designers and musicians across the creative industry. On the practical side, students will get to experiment with algorithms firsthand and unlock new generative artworks through a series of assignments and projects.

This class is designed to give artists, designers and musicians access to a clear and accessible description of powerful generative algorithms, the scope of which goes well beyond the creative domains covered in this class. Learning these algorithms will change your relation with technology by enabling you how to best use algorithmic syncing in your creative work.
